Oak silver trunk with nameplate of D & J Wellby, well known silversmiths of Garrick Street, London. In very good condition and complete with all its original 4 layers of trays - see one in photo below. 18 and 1/2" high x 21 and 3/4" depth back to front x 25 and 3/4" wide (but allow another couple of inches width for the chunky metal handles). There is a solid brass plaque to the left of the lock which we haven't cleaned but doesn't seem to have an inscription. This trunk is very dark oak although some of the colour is accumulation of polish and age so would clean back to a slightly more golden oak. The oak and metal are generally in very good order with light marking but not damaged. The black "paint" on the metal banding is a bit worn in places as is the internal paper and baize but overall in far superior condition than the average one of this type. Heavy and sturdy as you would expect of a silver trunk.

LARGE Victorian Pine Blanket box in very clean condition inside and out. Has typical metal carrying handles. 38 and 1/2"W x 25 and 1/2"H x 23 and 1/2"D. The dark marks on lid are wood knots emphasised by flash not stains. Good strong box and an unusual size.

The "golden" oak and metal are generally in very smart condition. The black "paint" on the metal banding has obviously been restored at some point. Clean and empty inside - no internal fittings. Heavy and sturdy trunk with a solid brass nameplate "CHARLES T LONGLEY".
